ABOUT THE 2015 FPS OPEN

The FPS Open is an annual event that brings over 40 FPS members and guest artists together to create an exciting and inclusive exhibition of the UK's best new and established artists.  The event is open to all fine artists and there is no restriction of concept, style or medium.

This year will again feature the coveted Roy Rasmussen Award for best in show and will be in association with Wines Hungary and the Albert Kennedy Trust.

ABOUT THE FREE PAINTERS AND SCULPTORS

FPS is an artist lead organisation based at the Menier Gallery that supports and promotes artists to develop their work on their own terms. The group builds long-term relationships with artists and promotes the dialogue and exchange of ideas within the visual arts through annual exhibitions and events.

Established in 1952, FPS was originally associated with the ICA (Institute of Contemporary Arts). Founding members featured many high profile and influential artists, including Roy Rasmussen,  Lyall Watson and Maurice Jadot who feature in the permanent Tate Collection.

FPS played a significant part in the establishment of abstract art in the 1950's and 60's and was the first of a number of post war movements that freed artists from the orthodoxy of rigid and purely technical judgements.  This ethos continues today and we welcome applications from talented artists at all stages of their career.

‘Brent Artists Resource: Supporting artists since 1984’

Please Join us for the Private View of Déjà Vu. A multi-media exhibition celebrating BAR’s diverse artistic community and its exceptional 30 year history in Brent.

Brent Artists Resource (BAR) is an independent arts organisation that has been supporting local artists, by delivering high quality projects and exhibitions since 1984. BAR has a long history with Brent Council, most significantly by collaboratively running The Gallery in the old Willesden Green Library Centre for over 12 years. The Gallery was nominated one of the top community galleries in London by the BBC in 2011. Déjà Vu exhibition sees the return of BAR and its artistic community to the new library gallery for one very special show.
The exhibition features 32 BAR artists and shows a variety of art media including photography, painting, print and sculptural work.
Taking place at the Private View will be a live session of our Community First funded project We are Willesden. Working with a local photographer, visitors will have the opportunity to have their portrait professionally taken and share their thoughts and stories about Willesden.

FOUR CONCEALED PROCESSIONS.

FOUR CONCEALED PROCESSIONS.

ARTWORKS by P.Murry at the Queens Park Cafe, Queens Park Pavilion, Harvist Road
London NW6 6SG October 5th to November 2nd 2015.The Queen’s Park café opens at 9am and closes one hour before the park closes every day (except Christmas Day). Call 020 8969 9569 for more information.

It is difficult to tell who is participating in a CONCEALED PROCESSION because it is concealed. Artistic endeavours may enable us to discern something about the nature of some CONCEALED PROCESSIONS
1.     A CONCEALED PROCESSION OF SELF-INFLATED FISH
2.     A CONCEALED PROCESSION OF BROCCOLI
3.     A CONCEALED PROCESSION OF OSTEOPATHS
4.     A CONCEALED PROCESSION OF COELACANTHS

Peter Murry is a relatively untrained painter, sculptor and printmaker who has exhibited with Free Painters & Sculptrs and Brent Artist's Resource., some of his writings are published in an anthology entitled "Son of The Glowing Nightsoil of the Concealed Emu" which is obtainable from him at yrrumuk@googlemail.com. His site for artwork and writings is http://quadraoptica.blogspot.co.uk/, he also works on a video blog for Dodo Modern Poets at  http://dodovidpoets.blogspot.co.uk/. In his spare time he is Secretary of the Green Party Trade Union group and Green Left.

Peter mistakenly thought that he was going to have a lot of spare time when he retired from his work as a Lecturer at the College of North West London In 2005. He has always had several intertwined strands to his life and activities. Visual art, specifically drawing and painting has been something that he has done all his life, recently he has experimented with printmaking in various forms, and sculpture using wood, metal and found materials. Possibly his visual art is “modern primitive” influenced by historical and contemporary art from non-industrial cultures, but an exception to this pseudo-nostalgia is his sculptural depiction of cephalopods and fish. Also Darwinism and the interplay of genetics, environment and randomness in shaping the forms and patterns of life, shape and form his various artworks. Shape shifting and menswear are involved as well

Strikers at the National Gallery

GPTU got a warm welcome from Candy Unwin and other strikers at the National Gallery this morning when they joined the picket line. Infromation on the dispute here:

Latest News

Gallery management announce private ‘partner’ and all-out strike looms

PCS members, who have already taken 52 days of strike action in opposition to the privatisation and to demand the reinstatement of unjustly sacked PCS rep Candy Udwin, are striking again between 4-6 August. The Union, which has repeatedly urged management to work with PCS and the conciliation service ACAS to resolve the dispute, views the decision to announce the private sector provider now as a deliberately inflammatory move by Gallery management. Consequently PCS have now served notice on the Gallery that the Union plans to commence all-out continuous strike action from 11 August.
Urgent appeal
With all-out strike action looming, the Gallery strikers are making a fresh appeal for financial support; You can help the campaign in a number of ways:
· By organising a collection at your workplace (a collection sheet can be downloaded from this page)
· By donating to Sort Code 08-60-01; Account No. 20169002
· By sending cheques to PCS Culture Media and Sport Association, c/o PCS North West Region, Jack Jones House, 1 Islington, Liverpool L3 8EG
· By donating via PayPal
You can also show your support by visiting the picket lines, which will be mounted outside the Gallery between 9:00-11:00am every strike day.

AS a gesture of support GPTU and Green Left have chosen  a National Gallery painting to help publicise our solidarity. vincent-van-gogh-long-grass-with-butterflies

Flash Trader in Cricklewood Community art event.

London artist Kevin Vincenzo Keating   will be exhibiting a new art piece
 around Brent this weekend.

The art piece is a giraffe called The Flash Trader and has been constructed from recycled shopping trolleys.

Kevin was inspired whilst walking around London and seeing an increasing amount of trolleys abandoned by roadsides and waste grounds  He decided that he would use the existing trolley design and merge it into the form of a giraffe. Kevin hopes that this engaging and humorous design will give a message that elevates the consumer, whilst placing emphasis on style and the practicality associated with recycling in consumerism.

Kevin has been touring his giraffe around London Galleries but also enjoys taking his art onto the streets and engaging A non gallery going public and younger people with art.

This weekend, Kevin along with his group of community artists Creative Cricklewood, will be exhibiting on his home turf. Everyone is  invited to join in the fun, and entertainment. There will be an opportunity to  have a free portrait drawn by contemporary portrait artist Mary Saxe- Falstein.  Free raffle tickets will be given to all attendees, where the prize will be a trolley full of shopping.

The local show starts Friday 31st July 6pm at the Queens Parade summer party Willesden. followed by 1st & 2nd August 12 noon to 6pm in Keyes rd Cricklewood NW2

NOT THE ROYAL ACADEMY - 9th June - 22nd August

11th anniversary! I'm very pleased to be taking part in this prestigious exhibition at the Llewellyn Alexander Gallery, for the 11th year running. "Not the Royal Academy", inspired by the original 'Salon des Refuses', hangs the best of this year's work submitted to the Royal Academy but not hung. The Gallery, opposite The Old Vic, is open from 10am until 7.30pm, Tuesday to Saturday. I'll be showing four paintings, one of which is 'Sunshine'.

DUNKELD CATHEDRAL ART EXHIBITION –  18th June - 29th August

I love visiting Scotland and it gives me great pleasure that some of my paintings will be there again this Summer. Sales contribute towards the reconstruction of the wonderful Dunkeld Cathedral. This year the exhibition will be showing a selection of my paintings and prints, one of which is Atardecer/Early Evening.

FRAGMENTS OF SPAIN - 26th August - 6th September

Once again Loli Cardenoso - ceramic artist - and I are joining forces to bring some of the light and colour of the Spanish summer to London.
The exhibition will take place at Burgh House, New End Square, Hampstead, NW3 1LT, on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays from 12 to 5pm.
More details later.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE ART AGENCY
AND WELCOME TO THEIR NEW HOME!
This October - dates to be confirmed.

It seems like a long time since the day I met Alison Ramsey and Emma Riley, the two dynamic and lovely women who own and run The Art Agency, Esher. In the four years the gallery has been open they have gone from strength to strength and they are about to move to new and larger premises at 118-120 High Street, Esher, Surrey KT10 9QJ.

One of their recent ventures was to take part in the Battersea Affordable Art Fair where they included my 'Sticky Collection'. We were delighted when it sold out, contributing to what was a very successful event for the gallery.

In October they will be celebrating their fourth birthday with a new exhibition and I am delighted that I have been asked to show my new collection. To the right is a preview of one of the new paintings which I am still working on for The Elevated Collection (thank you Alison for the title!).

I hope you will come to the party on 2nd October, from 7.30pm.
