THIS FRIDAY, CHAMPAGNE RECEPTION: 21st April from 6 - 9pm

The Palm Tree Gallery is pleased to present PINK BLISS, a solo exhibition by Italian artist Sofia Cacciapaglia. Influenced by 20th Century painters Sofia has created a new body of work for the exhibition that combines the Apollonian and Dionysian: the passionate culture of Sicily, ancient Greece and Mediterranean civilisations. For this show the artist has used strong tones of reds and pinks reinforcing her profound poetic sensibility.

Sofia’s oil paintings depict female forms and flowers in a ‘figurative-symbolic’ style. Her use of diptychs and triptychs and the negative space around her confident brush strokes create an elegant and ethereal feeling. ‘The forms are imposing yet light, they inhabit an unreal, timeless space’. The classic figures suspended in the space compliment each other and softly embrace the beholder, creating a strong and dynamic portrayal of female contours; even her flowers have a flesh like appearance. Sofia adheres to a pure, prehistoric and primitive approach capturing a real sense of freedom.

Born in Ponte dell'Olioin 1983, Sofia started to paint as a child. After graduating at Accademiadi Belle Artidi Brera, she moved to New York where she had her first solo exhibition at IndustriaSuperStudio. In 2014 she was the youngest artist to show in the Italian Pavilion at 54th Venice Biennale. In the last few years she has showed her work at MuseodellaPermanente and Palazzo Stellinein Milan and at Fondazione PastificioCerrerein Rome, to name a few. Her work is in many private collections including Banca Sistema where Sofia had a retrospective in 2013.
