Mehrak Davoudi | The Illumination of the Soul

19 September - 6 October 2019
Private View: Thursday 19 September 6.30 - 9pm

The Muse Gallery | 269 Portobello Road | London W11 1LR
Mehrak Davoudi last exhibited at the Muse as part of
the gallery's residency program competition last year
and returns with a solo show of new works this Autumn.

Manipulatied to reveal and obscure, to turn the inside
out, Davoudi's sculptures invite contemplation on the
memories and emotions hidden within the folds of
these contorted objects. The works' reflective surface
simultaneously mirrors the artist's personal experience
that informed the work, and the viewer's reflection
upon it.

The Illumination of the Soul is a contemporary
interpretation of ancient philosophies and invites light
to blend the tangible with the sub-conscious.
Mehrak Davoudi is a London-based artist of Iranian origin who works in sculpture, painting, installation and performance. Themes of exile, identity and transformation are at the core of her practice. Her work has been exhibited widely and is included in prestigious collections.
The Muse was established in 2003 as an artist-run gallery and studio with a programme centred around a residency program for recent graduates. The Muse not only provides exhibition and studio space but supports affiliated beyond their residency with professional development as well as introductions to clients and industry connections.
