Hooray for the Here and Now is the first solo exhibition by multi disciplinary artist Sam Haynes. The exhibition title reflects the positive outlook that defines her practice.

Straddling sculpture and photography to balance an intuitive, playful process within a structural framework the artist presents an ambiguous body of work that defies categorisation. Assemblage photo works will be shown alongside a series of sculptures constructed using materials sourced from the recent renovation of the gallery space itself.

Haynes uses light and shadow to manipulate perspective and perception. Found objects and everyday materials are elevated to luxury items, precarious constructions are granted longevity in fine art photography, introducing an element of drama and celebration to a fleeting moment.

A background in public art and experience of collaborating with marginalised communities inform her work in equal measure. Making connections is paramount, whether between materials or across disciplines, between artist and viewer, or ultimately within wider society.

On Saturday 23 September, Sam Haynes will be in conversation with Sheryll Catto, Artist Director & CEO of the artist development agency ActionSpace, to discuss her creative process and the influence of community on her practice today. The exhibition closes with an opportunity to meet some of the Sound Minds artists who open their studios to visitors on 30 September.

Sam Haynes is a London-based artist working in photography, sculpture and installation.

With an Art in Architecture MA from the University of East London and an interdisciplinary arts background, her geometric, abstract work maintains a dramatic quality, expressed through an elegantly balanced aesthetic.

Drawing on past experiences as a public artist, designing permanent and temporary installations, she launched her assemblage photo artworks at the beginning of 2021 with exhibitions in London and across Europe.

Sound Minds is an ACE-funded mental health charity transforming lives through music, film and art. Support by the Sophie Clarke Foundation allowed the charity to renovate the existing  studios and to create a gallery space for the Sounds Minds artists to exhibit their work.

Hooray for the Here and Now is the first occasion for the Bloom Gallery to be hired out to help raise funding for weekly studio sessions and future group exhibitions. With the support of the Sound Minds group, studio members have gone on to study at art schools and further progressed into adult education.

Sam Haynes has worked with Sound Minds as an art facilitator and project manager since 2017.
