'Then and Now' our 60th Anniversary exhibition, details and dates for submissions

Dear FPS members and prospective new members, please see attached the first draft of the exhibition information for our next show in November. The big change this year is the artist submission fees for the exhibition as we can no longer afford to subsidise the exhibition fees to such an extent for the venues we aspire to. Currently we are aiming to keep fees at around £100 per artist per show, depending on venue and external revenue such as sponsorship and merchandise. For the next show 'Then and Now' our 60th Anniversary exhibition, the fees will be around £100 for approx 2m wide by 3m high wall space - based on 20 artists participating, plus 12m of window hanging space for suitable work and over 90m square metres of floor space for sculpture. This fee is still heavily subsidised and we will still be looking for further sponsorship deals and commission sales from sales which still stands at 30% plus VAT . (any sponsorship opportunities that you kno...

Drawings of Basque Refugee Children by Richard Murry

Image
Begona Ulles pencil Drawing by Richard Murry 1939 Peter Murry, (FPS Secretary) has just sent a portfolio of  about twenty five drawings of Basque Refugee Children by his father, Richard Murry to the Library of the University of Southampton which maintains an archive specifically about the Basque Refugee Children who arrived in Britain towards the end of the Spanish Civil War in 1939. Richard Murry, an artist and later Curator and Librarian  of the Central School of Arts and Crafts, was probably a member of the Independent Labour Party at that time, may well have made the drawings as part of a fund raising or publicity drive on behalf of  Spanish Civil War refugees. Photos of the drawings are at   http://www.flickr.com/photos/yrrumuk/
