Annamarie Dzendrowskyj examines the silent allure of obscurity both formally and metaphorically. Her paintings constitute an intangible suggestion of time and space, hinting at a fleeting moment caught between presence and absence.

With Shadows of Perception Dzendrowskyj responds to Junichiro Tanizaki's contemplations on aesthetics. In his 1933 essay 'In Praise of Shadows', the Japanese novelist suggests that too much light can pollute and obscure our view of the natural world.

Inspired by the Australian landscape that provided the backdrop during the artist's studies and drawing upon imagery from the Blue Mountains captured shortly after much of the area was destroyed by bushfires, the works in this exhibition are painted shadows of dissolved and reassembled traces of memory.

Shadows of Perception invites viewers to reflect on the beauty and precarity of life.

Annamarie Dzendrowskyj has exhibited in the UK and internationally; her work has been shortlisted for prestigious awards and is held in both public and private collections.

She holds a BA Hons Degree in Philosophy from Lancaster University, with speciality subjects in existentialism and aesthetics, a BA in Fine Art and a BA Honours Degree in Painting from the National Art School, Sydney, Australia.
The Muse was established in 2003 as an artist-run gallery and studio with a programme centred around a residency program for recent graduates.

Combining creative and commercial concepts under one roof, the gallery supports affiliated artists beyond their initial residency, and hosts exhibitions for invited artists.
